Thala Beach Nature Reserve
Just 45 minutes north of Cairns international airport is this absolutely stunning resort, located in one of our favourite parts of Australia.
North Queensland is home to some of the most stunning scenery in Australia. Often deserted, always pristine beaches, dense natural rainforest and an array of wildlife, you could call this area nature’s paradise. The perfect setting for an eco-resort.
Thala Beach nature Reserve is 5 star. You have 2km of private beaches. 10km of bush walking trails. 2 freeform rock pools. And free guided tours. That’s all just at the resort, before even exploring nearby. Rooms are bungalow style with either bush or beach view. The classy restaurant is set with open sides, amidst the native bush, keeping on trend with the resort’s style which is all about making the most of the surrounds.
Thala is listed as a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World thanks to the efforts of protecting natural and cultural heritage, supporting local communities and implementing environmentally friendly practices.
Billabong Wellness Retreat
Just an hour from Sydney, Billabong Wellness retreat offers guest a full yoga and meditation timetable, locally sourced organic meals and everything needed to escape, unwind, and rejuvenate.
The resort itself is set on the edge of a billabong surrounded by trees. Rooms are luxurious in either cabin, tree house or cottage style. All with private balconies or patios. Totally lush!
What we love most about this retreat extends beyond its convenience (close to Sydney airport) and setting. The story behind the owners – Tory and Paul – is one of a family who genuinely love yoga, and the lifestyle that comes with a community to authentic guests.
Billabong Wellness Retreat isn’t one of those “what you look like” places, it’s a place where everyone and every style is welcome; everyone is catered and cared for. The best wellness retreat we’ve come across this side of Australasia.
O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, Lamington National Park
Just 2 hours from Gold Coast Airport (Coolangatta) you’ll find yourself immersed within the immense Lamington National Park. More than 21,000 hectares of national park land with extensive walking tracks and dramatic lookouts right at the lodge front door.
At O’Reillys, the entire family is welcome. Expect no phones or television, instead guests can enjoy discovery programmes of flora and fauna, 4wd excursions, glow worn tours, tree top walks and waterfall trails. Rooms are cosily furnished with a variety of tastes and views. Our favourite has to be the mountain villas with spa bath on private deck, overlooking the mountains.
Family friendly for the kind of eco getaway that involves learning and loving the vast Australian wilderness.
Daintree Wilderness Lodge
Nestled in the Daintree National Park, of Australia’s famous Far North Queensland, your environment is all about natural rainforest and the wildlife that inhabits it. A complete escape in what can feel like utter desertedness of human inhabitants with everything you need at your fingertips.
An outdoor pool surrounded by rainforest. Rainforest walks with bird spotting. Rooms even have canopy viewing skylights. The Daintree National Park is one of the few places in the World where ocean meets rainforest. The results of which are utter outdoor serenity.
Byron at Byron Bay
If there was ever a place to go eco, Byron Bay is it. This is the village that has “slow down, chill out” on the road side at each entrance to the Bay after all! Sophisticated hippy charm is what this town is all about.
Our all time favourite place to holiday in Australia, is Byron Bay where everything necessary for a relaxing beach holiday is in walking distance. And you won’t become bored because there is plenty to enjoy such as the café and restaurant scene, boutiques, water activities like kayaking with turtles or surfing, galleries and – our favourite day trip – Crystal Castle.
Byron at Byron Bay features relaxing pool, gym, tennis court, bicycle hire and spa. Rooms are comfortable and oh so contemporary with a light colour palette designed to relax.
Byron Bay is one place to return to time and again. With a stay at Byron at Byron Bay bring just yourself a book and your swimmers, or come with your bestie.
The Villas, Barossa
The place to be when you and your romantic partner decide to explore the nearby cellars of the Barossa Valley. The Villa’s are simple, warm, secluded and peaceful; just what you need when you’re wine tasting in the Barossa Valley!
Each villa is a self-contained, secluded retreat. Simple in design but lacking they are not. Walk or cycle to the nearby gin distillery and restaurants or enjoy the comfort of home with a relaxing book amidst the natural landscape.
